Travel Tunica Struck Gold at Chicago Steakhouse

While in Tunica, you won’t be lacking for a great dining experience as Lisa & I found out at Gold Strike’s Chicago Steakhouse!  I’m not always a regular patron of our local steakhouses because I most often think that they’re for special occasions, when I am looking to gorge myself on a juicy steak with some great wine.  But sometimes in the middle of the week or when you’re looking to sit at gaming table for a few hours, you want a meal that’s not too heavy. Trusting Video Slot Machines

Way back in the late 1980s, before casinos came to Mississippi (or anywhere else in the United States outside Nevada and New Jersey), I was walking through the Flamingo in Las Vegas on a busy Friday night. Rows and rows of slot machines were busy, but as I cruised the aisles, I spotted one empty spot. I made my way past five or six machines, and found a single idle game amidst a slot-playing frenzy. One of the saddest sights I’ve seen in a casino came when I was just getting off an elevator, coming down from my hotel room. As I walked into the casino, a host I knew pointed to a player sitting, shoulders slumped, just staring at a slot machine. It was a four-reel mechanical game in which four blue 7s was the big winner for a progressive jackpot. (more…)

Outdoor Writers Take a Quack at Duck Hunting in Tunica

As a previous guest and visitor to our area John Phillips once wrote, “Every duck hunter in the nation believes that if they’ve lived good, sportsmen-like lives and have close relationship with God, they’ll hopefully get permission to hunt at Beaver Dam near Tunica, Mississippi, before they die.  (more…)

What’s Your Chance of Hitting the Jackpot at Caribbean Stud?

Caribbean Stud Poker gives table players a chance to go for the gold in a way that’s usually reserved for the slots. A $1 side bet qualifies you for a progressive jackpot that can be a lifestyle-changer --- the largest I know of exceeded $700,000. (more…)

Entertainment in the New Year

It’s only a few days into the new year, and I find myself wanting to look forward to a getaway.  It really is the best way to cure the winter blues.  Sometimes that “getaway” is just down the road because the entertainment is coming to me in the new year in Tunica! (more…)
